Vegan Eats in Edmonton (#YEG)

Vegan Eats in Edmonton (#YEG)

Eating and travelling are probably two of my most favourite things. Travel is something I’ve not done in a very, very long time, at least not in a significant way. I’ve done lots of road trips in the past four years, but between the pandemic and the post-pandemic, I hadn’t been on a plane since 2019, which, for me, is a pretty long time.

Did I go somewhere exotic? Like a white sandy beach or a European capital? Nope. I flew to Edmonton!

Okay, all jokes aside, Edmonton really impressed me. I was there to hang out and spend time with my friend Nimrit (aka @maplebrownie) and because we’re both hard-core foodies, we basically just ate our way through the days that I was there.

Turns out, Edmonton is a really beautiful city with lots to offer, and a surprising amount of decent vegan food as well. Here were some of my favourite Vegan Eats in Edmonton.

Cafe Mosaics

My first night there, we headed to Cafe Mosaics, a cute little casual, neighbourhood cafe where everything is vegetarian or vegan. I had the Mystery Burger, but of note here were the fries, which were perfection.

Bountiful Farmer’s Market

Open on the weekends, Bountiful is an indoor farmer’s market with loads to offer. Of course they have normal Farmer’s Market fare: fresh fruits and vegetables, but they also have baked goods and lots of prepared foods, too. You can get vegan pirogies, kimbap and other vegan Korean treats from MJs Korean Kitchen, and something called a Waffle Puck from Cookie Crumbs.

Loca in Sherwood Park

A recently-opened, beautiful specialty grocery store with loads of vegan options. Reminded me a bit of Eataly.

King of Tarts

This 100% plant-based bakery specializes in some very tasty treats, like croissants (they had a twice-baked biscoff one that totally caught my eye!), kougin amann, Nanaimo bars, and of course, tarts. They recently had to shut down their cafe due a flood, but you can find them on the weekends at Edmonton’s various farmer’s markets.

Donut Party

This place is so cute! It’s very fun and pink and over the top, and that pretty much describes the donuts, too. They’re big, they’re creative, and the flavours change often, so you’ll never be bored.

Padmanadi

This was my favourite meal in #YEG. The focus here is on Indonesian cuisine, but it’s 100% vegan. We split a couple of “chicken” dishes (they use lots of seitan here) and also a “mutton” dish that was in the form of a kind of meatball. All of the dishes were excellent; the seitan was chewy and flavourful, and the sauces and veg that went with them were just right. My favourite dish was the Tom Yum Mutton.

Which places should I try the next time I go to Edmonton? Drop them in the comments below!
