7 Reasons to Stay at Hotel Zed Tofino (plus discount code!)
For me, when I stay at a hotel or a resort, I’m always looking for the little details that set that property apart from any others. I recently stayed at the Hotel Zed in Tofino, and there is so much about this place that makes is unique.

This isn’t the first time I’ve stayed here. Hotel Zed owns three properties in BC, one in Victoria, one in Tofino and one in Kelowna, which is the only one I’ve not yet stayed at. Their brand is funky and off-beat, but in the best possible way. This isn’t your traditional, cookie-cutter hotel.
So here are 7 reasons to stay at Hotel Zed in Tofino:
- If you’re obsessed with all things retro and especially mid-century modern (like I am), you will love this place. There are vintage touches everywhere, but modernized, as this hotel is only 5years old. The rooms and lobby are all decorated with mid-century teak furniture, and you’ll find the shag carpet and artwork that you would have found in your grandma’s basement, but without that musty smell. I particularly loved the detail in the rotary dial phones (when was the last time you saw one of those??), the light fixtures, and the lobby lounge in the shape of a sunken living room, complete with ski-chalet fireplaces and loads of board games.
- If you have kids, or you’re just a big kid yourself, there’s so much for you here. In the lobby, pull a book to trigger the sliding bookcase, which reveals a 1980’s videogame arcade, complete with Donkey Kong and Ms.Pacman, that you can play for free to your heart’s content. The bedside table in your room contains comic books and a yo-yo. There’s a disco (complete with Karaoke), a games room and even a fortune teller’s booth. Did I mention the board games? We had every intention to bring our own, but ended up forgetting. It wasn’t a problem, we just played with theirs.
- When it comes to any hotel, location, location, location is incredibly important. Hotel Zed is a short drive to the actual town of Tofino, and just a 5 minute walk to Chesterman Beach. The Tofino Estuary is just behind the hotel. There’s a small strip mall about a 10 minute walk down the road, which includes a small grocery, and lots of places to eat, like Wildside Grill, the OG Tacofino food truck, a coffee shop, and Chocolate Tofino. In the summer, you can grab bikes and ride the path into town.
- Yes, it's pet friendly! Not only is it pet friendly, there are doggos all over the place. As someone who loves dogs, it made me so happy! Don't forget to stop by the front desk for a treat for your good boy or good girl.
- The outdoor spa. By far and away my #1 favourite feature of this hotel is the outdoor spa in the woods. Located just behind the hotel, it's covered, but not walled in, so you get to enjoy the outdoor air while sitting in the massive, 12-person hot tub. There's also a barrel sauna with a massive window open to the woods. Nothing like sitting in the hot tub or sauna and watching the trees sway in the breeze.
- Eco-friendly and sustainable. It's hard to be in Tofino and not think about the environment. This is, quite literally, one of the most beautiful places on earth, and we need to keep it that way. Hotel Zed is part of the Bosphere Sustainable program, which means they are taking steps towards being more eco-friendly. This means things like limiting the amount of plastics they use (in your rooms, the hand soap and lotions are in refillable glass bottles), and the coffee program comes in mason jars, and not in pods or plastic. In your room, you have a bodum, some beautiful hand-made, locally sourced mugs, and they give you a mason jar of coffee and another of milk or cream. Every day, they collect your bodum and the used coffee is composted, and then you get a new jar of coffee for the next day and clean bodum. It's incredibly unique, I've never stayed at a hotel where they did this before.
- A commitment to supporting other local businesses. In addition to the beautiful coffee cups by local potter Daniela Petosa, the toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash & lotion) come from Island Essentials. They smell great, by the way! I especially loved the lotion.
