Aquafabulous! Cookbook Giveaway

Ummm, wait now. How did it get to be December??? Suddenly it’s three weeks to Christmas and I haven’t done a thing.

If you’re like me (and, let me just say, don’t be) and you are panicking right now, maybe I can help.

I mean, I can help you. I can’t help myself, I’m clearly a lost cause.

I am giving away a couple copies of my cookbook, Aquafabulous!: 100+ Egg-Free Vegan Recipes Using Aquafaba.

Aquafabulous!

This would make a great gift for the vegan on your Christmas list, or your sister/friend/cousin with the egg allergy. You could even keep it for yourself. I promise I won’t tell.  There are over 100 recipes, all vegan (and therefore egg-free), and delicious (I taste-tested every one personally). There’s lots of variety in there, as well, everything from breakfasts to snacks to desserts (especially desserts) and everything in between…

Like, oh, for example:

  • Vegan Chocolate Mousse
  • Pavlova
  • Crepes (both sweet and savoury)
  • Chocolate Waffled Brownie S’mores
  • “Everything Bagel” crackers
  • Vegan Pate

So good, right?

Okay, so here’s the deal.

  1. Comment below and tell me what recipe you’d like to see me “veganize.” It’s that simple! The contest will run for a week, ending at midnight on December 12. I’ll then draw one name at random from all the comments, and mail you a copy of my book! Boom!
  2. I’m giving away a second copy on my Instagram feed, click to enter that one as well.

Good luck!! And I wish you all an easy and carefree holiday with zero stress.

Win a Copy of The North Shore Foodie

‘Tis the season for giving!

One of my favourite things to give (and get–despite the name of my blog) is cookbooks.

Do I cook from my laptop/phone/tablet? Yeah, I do. All the time. But I also love getting a new cookbook and strolling over to my neighborhood coffee shop and sitting down with it and a coffee and pile of sticky notes. I page through, looking at all the recipes, and marking the ones I want to make. Every book is a new adventure.

Because I am a proud localvore, I am always especially excited when someone local produces a cookbook. You were probably sick of hearing me talk about @emvandee‘s Well Fed, Flat Broke earlier this year.

Well, a new local cookbook just landed on my doorstep, and boy, is it a doozy!

The North Shore Foodie is more than just a cookbook. It’s history, it’s foodporn, and recipes. It’s really more of a gorgeous coffee table book than it is a cookbook.

The book features various North Shore restaurants, and includes their story and history, as well as a couple recipes and some mouth-watering photos.

I live right downtown, so it’s an easy hop-skip-jump for me go over the Lion’s Gate to the North Shore. I spend quite a bit of time there, actually. Michael has weekly appointments there, and Capilano is our closest mall. So I was happy to recognize lots of my favourites in this book, like La Regalade, Hugos, Caffe Al Mercato, Sebastian & Co, Temper (who make some of my fave croissants in town), and The Snug Cafe (on Bowen).

But there are two places that I was especially excited to see represented, and that’s because they are personal favorites of mine. The first is The Portly Chef, a tiny little bistro on Lonsdale. My dear friend Emily runs the front of house here, but Chef Jeff Batt is an unsung culinary superstar. The last time I was there, I had one of his specialties: Drunken Sablefish. This is an amazing dish, and if you ever go there, you need to order it. Or–you can make it. The recipe is in The North Shore Foodie.

Vegan Gluten Free BrowniesSecondly, I really love Two Daughters Bakeshop. One of the few truly gluten-free bakeries in the Lower Mainland, Two Daughters is like the third daughter of Lisa Reichelt. Her daughter, Sawyer, was diagnosed with celiac disease, and furthermore, an egg allergy when she was around 5. So Lisa changed her life and her burgeoning business into a gluten-free bake shop. Many of her products are also vegan, like these brownies.

If you are into #FoodPorn, you need to check this book out. I am only a very beginning food photographer, and I only hope I can be as good as Brad Hill is, someday. Every photo is delicious and mouth-watering.

This book would make a great Christmas gift for the foodie on your list!
