What to Do in Ucluelet With Kids

A couple weeks ago, my son and I had the opportunity to go to Ucluelet during Spring Break for a few nights. It was a really fun time! I’ve already written about my love for the gorgeous Black Rock Resort, where we stayed (and watched the waves crash), but if you want to get off the couch for a while, there are lots of fun things to do with your kids in Ucluelet.

What to Do in Ucluelet With Kids

1. Wild Pacific Trail: rated as the #1 Attraction in British Columbia by Trip Advisor, the Pacific Wild Trail offers two options: the Lighthouse Loop (2.6 km), and the Big Beach to Rocky Bluffs trail (5 km one way). Depending on how old your kids are, and how far they can hike, you can choose which one suits you better. The trail is well-marked, and easy, and offers fantastic views of the water. You may even seen whales passing by!

2. Whale Watching: there are tons of different options for whale watching tours. This time of the year, the whales are migrating, so they are everywhere! What an amazing experience to see one of these huge, graceful creatures.

3. The Ucluelet Aquarium: we have been to some great aquariums. Our own Vancouver Aquarium is pretty impressive. And while the Ucluelet Aquarium is small in relation, we had a really fun time there. There were biologists and interpreters, and kids (and adults) are encouraged to touch. That’s so rare these days! The interpreters were amazing–they were so smart, and they really knew their stuff. I learned tons, and we stayed quite a long time. This was really one of the highlights of the trip for both of us!

4. The beach: there’s beach everywhere around here. Kids and the beach are a match made in heaven. Boot them up, and let them go exploring. There are tons of little critters under every rock and in every tidal pool. It’s really magical.
